What To Expect In Our Assemblies
At Eastside, our service is all about the Word, Jesus Christ. We believe that He’s “granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness” (2 Pet 1:3). This includes how to offer acceptable worship to God, the Father. As a result, you’ll find that our services are deeply spiritual and entirely Biblical.
We offer heartfelt prayer to God - Acts 2:42, 1 Thess 5:17, 25. The congregation is led in prayer by the men in the assembly. We pray, not only to praise and thank God, but also to ask for our needs and the needs others. 1 Tim 2:1-4, Eph 6:18
We sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs - Eph 5:18-19, Col 3:16. The entire assembly joins in singing. There is no choir or special group, just simple congregational singing. Since there is no evidence of instrumental music in the New Testament churches, we do not use it in our worship.
We study the Bible in preaching and teaching - Acts 2:42, Matt 28:20. The classes and sermons are designed to teach God’s word and encourage obedience by all who listen.
We give of our means to carry on the work of the church - 1 Cor 16:1-2, 2 Cor 9:7. As the New Testament churches did, we give as we have prospered on the first day of every week for the benevolence of needy Christians and to continue the work God has given the church. This is a responsibility of our members and our visitors are not expected to contribute.
We observe the Lord’s supper in remembrance of Jesus’ sacrifice - 1 Cor 11:23-29, Acts 20:7. Like the church in the New Testament, we partake of the Lord’s Supper on the first day of every week. The supper consists of unleavened bread and fruit of the vine as memorials of the body and blood of Jesus.
